Ariana Grande enjoyed a winning start to the week by taking out her first Grammy Award. There’s a good chance she’ll finish the week with some new trophies in the U.K., where she’s on track to score a chart double.
At the halfway point of the U.K. chart week, Grande’s new album Thank U, Next (Republic Records) is outperforming the rest of the top 5 combined, with half of its combined sales total coming from streams, according to the Official Charts Company.
Thank U, Next starts at No. 1 on the Official Albums Chart Update and, if it holds its position through Friday, it’ll become Grande’s third No. 1 LP in the territory following Dangerous Woman (2016) and Sweetener (2018), which won the Grammy last Sunday for best pop vocal album.
Grande is also in the thick of it on the midweek singles tally, with not one but two singles competing for the chart crown.
Grande’s current chart-leader “7 Rings” retains top spot on the Official Chart Update, though her new release, “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored,” which dropped last Friday accompanied with a chic music video, is only 41 combined sales behind, the OCC reports. Another album track, “Needy,” cracks the top 10, at No. 6.
The strongest challenge comes from Calvin Harris and Rag’n’Bone Man, whose collaboration “Giant” (Columbia) rises 4-3. If it holds or improves its position, “Giant” will be Harris’ 19th top 3 single in his homeland.
The official U.K. singles and albums charts are published late Friday, local time.
